Deborah Bordelon Chosen as the Next Provost at Columbus State University in Georgia

Columbus State University in Georgia has announced that Deborah Bordelon has been selected as the university’s next provost and executive vice president. Columbus State University enrolls nearly 7,000 undergraduate students and more than 1,600 graduate students. Women make up 59 percent of the undergraduate student body.

In accepting the appointment, Dr. Bordelon said “it was evident during my campus visit how consistent and strong the commitment to student success and academic excellence is across the university. I am excited to have the opportunity to work closely with the faculty, staff, students, and community to promote the high quality educational opportunities at Columbus State University.”

Since 2013, Dr. Bordelon has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois. Earlier, she was dean of the College of Education at the university. Before joining the faculty at Governors State University in 2008, Dr. Bordelon held teaching and administrative posts at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and Xavier University in New Orleans.

Dr. Bordelon holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in education, and a doctorate in special education, all from the University of New Orleans.
