Mary Lynn Boscardin, professor of special education at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst was chosen as president-elect of the Council for Exception Children. Professor Boscardin will serve as president-elect during 2018 and become president of the council on January 1, 2019.
The Council for Exception Children is a professional association of educators dedicated to advancing the success of children with exceptionalities. The organization was founded in 1922 as the The International Council for the Education of Exceptional Children and took its present name in 1958. Today, the organization, based in Arlington, Virginia, has more than 27,000 members. The Council examines policy issues, develops appropriate responses to those issues and attempts to influence local, state, and federal legislation. It also monitors and makes recommendations for program regulations and funding.
Professor Boscardin is the co-editor of the Handbook of Leadership and Administration for Special Education (Routledge, 2012). She holds a bachelor’s degree in speech and hearing science and an educational doctorate from the University of Illinois. Dr. Boscardin also earned a master’s degree in speech pathology and audiology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
