Two Women Scholars at the University of Nevada Win Book Awards

Sarah Jane Blithe, an assistant professor of communication studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, received the 2017 Outstanding Book Award from the Organizational Communication Division of the National Communication Association. She was honored for her book Gender Equality and Work-Life Balance: Glass Handcuffs and Working Men in the U.S. (Routledge, 2015).
Dr. Blithe holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She also earned a master’s degree at the University of Denver.
Greta de Jong, professor of history at the university received the 2017 Willie Le Rose Prize from the Southern Association for Women Historians. She was honored for her book You Can’t Eat Freedom: Southerners and Social Justice After the Civil Rights Movement (University of North Carolina Press, 2016).
Professor de Jong joined the faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno in 2002. She is also the author of A Different Day: African American Struggles for Justice in Rural Louisiana, 1900-1970 (University of North Carolina Press, 2002). She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Proessor de Jong earned a Ph.D. in history from Pennsylvania State University.
