Katharine H. Cole is the new dean of undergraduate affairs at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She will also hold the title of vice provost. Dean Cole was associate provost and dean of academic services at the University of Tampa. Earlier, Dr. Cole was associate dean of undergraduate studies at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Dr. Cole is a graduate of the University of Delaware, where she majored in biological sciences. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and a Ph.D. in pathology from the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Marsha Horton was named interim dean of the College of Education, Health, and Policy at Delaware State University. She was dean and associate professor in the School of Education, Psychology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Virginia Union University in Richmond. Earlier, Dr. Horton was an associate professor at Wilmington University in Delaware.
Dr. Horton is a magna cum laude graduate of Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Illinois.
Marilyn Helms, a professor of supply chain management at Dalton State College in Georgia, was named dean of the college’s Wright School of Business. She joined the faculty at the college in 2000. Earlier, she taught at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga.
Dr. Helms holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business administration, all from the University of Memphis.
Although it was initially founded as school for women, the University of Montevallo has never had a woman president. Now the university has reached a historic milestone and selected selected Michelle R. Johnston to serve as its next president.
The women who are taking on new leadership roles with professional academic organizations are Yasmeen Shorish of James Madison University in Virginia, Elena Carbone of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Shelley Lusetti of New Mexico State University, Oona Hathaway of Yale Law School, and Keisha Blain of Brown University.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a national program run by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. Dr. Yelick, a computer scientist and longtime UC Berkeley faculty member, will become the laboratory's next director on July 1.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
