Two Women Among the Four Finalists for President of Castleton University in Vermont

Castleton UniversityCastleton University in Vermont enrolls about 2,000 undergraduate students and nearly 400 graduate students. Women make up 52 percent of the undergraduate students.

The university has announced a field of four finalists to become the next president of the educational institution. All of the candidates soon will be visiting the university to meet with members of the campus community. Two of the four finalists are women.

Anne Huot is the former president of Keene State College in New Hampshire. She became president in 2013 and stepped down this past June citing personal and professional reasons. Before becoming president at Keene State College, Dr. Huot served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at the College of Brockport, a campus of the State University of New York System. Previously, she was executive vice provost and director of the Office of Academic Affairs for the SUNY system in Albany. Earlier, she taught at the University of Vermont and served there as executive dean of the Graduate College. Dr. Huot is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where she majored in medical technology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Vermont.

Karen M. Scolforo is the ninth president of Central Penn College in Summerdale, Pennsylvania. The college, located just north of Harrisburg, enrolls about 1,400 students. Women make up 64 percent of the student body. Dr. Scolforo has served as president there since 2013. From 2009 to 2013, Dr. Scolforo served as executive director of Fortis College in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Scolforo is a summa cum laude graduate of Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire. She holds a master’s degree in writing and literature from Rivier University in Nashua, New Hampshire, a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Southern New Hampshire University, and an educational doctorate from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
