The board of trustees at Princeton University in New Jersey, has announced the hiring of 18 new faculty members. Seven of the 18 new hires are women.
Reena N. Goldthree is a new assistant professor of African American studies. Since 2011, she has been an assistant professor of African and African American studies at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Her research focuses on the history of modern Latin America and the Caribbean. Dr. Goldthree is a magna cum laude graduate of Columbia University and holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Grace Helton was hired as an assistant professor of philosophy, She will join the faculty at Princeton in 2018 after completing her current postdoctoral fellowship at the university. Earlier, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. Dr. Helton is a graduate of the University of Nebraska and holds a Ph.D. from New York University.
Jennifer Jennings was hired as a professor of sociology. She will also teach in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at the university. Since 2011, Dr. Jennings has taught at New York University. Professor Jennings’ research is focused on gender and racial disparities in education and health. She is a graduate of Princeton University and earned a master’s degree at the University of Cambridge in England and a Ph.D. at Columbia University.
Velma Mitch McEwen is a new assistant professor of architecture. Since 2014, she has been an assistant professor in the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. McEwen is a graduate of Harvard University. She earned a master of architecture degree at Columbia University.
Laura Quick was appointed an assistant professor in religion and Judaic studies. She has been serving as a lecturer at the University of Oxford in England. Dr. Quick is a graduate of Cardiff University in Wales. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Durham in England and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford.
Leslie Schoop was named an assistant professor of chemistry. She has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, Germany. Dr. Schoop is a graduate of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. She earned a Ph.D. at Princeton University in 2014.
Natasha Wheatley is a new assistant professor of modern European history. She has been conducting postdoctoral research at the University of Sydney in Australia. Dr. Wheatley is a graduate of the University of Sydney and holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University.
Dr. Dotson spent six years as president of Yuba College in California. Earlier, she served eight years as a senior administrator with Clover Park Technical College in Washington.
Dr. Shah is the Ursula Geller Distinguished Professor of Research in Cardiovascular Diseases and associate dean for translational research at the Duke University School of Medicine. She will serve as president-elect of the American Heart Association in 2026–2027, followed by a one-year term as president in 2027–2028.
Dr. Batten will become interim president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College on August 1. She most recently served as the two-year college's vice president for student affairs.
Dr. Kahanov became the twentieth president of Notre Dame de Namur University in California on July 1. She previously served as provost at Alvernia University in Pennsylvania, Stockton University in New Jersey, and SUNY Oneonta.
Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
