Shaw University President Steps Down to Take Post as Chief Operating Officer at Howard University

Tashni-Ann Dubroy has reigned her position as president of historically Black Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, in order to take the position as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Dubroy became the 17th president of Shaw University in August 2015. Earlier, she was the special assistant to the president for process optimization at Shaw University and chaired Shaw’s department of natural sciences and mathematics. Dr. Dubroy is also the co-founder of Tea and Honey Blends, a hair care products company, and the Brilliant and Beautiful Foundation, which seeks to increase interest in the sciences among girls in middle school.
Dr. Dubroy is generally given high marks for her performance as president of Shaw University. Joe Shaw, chair of the board of trustees of Shaw University, stated that “we are proud of her energetic, inclusive and refreshing leadership and the manner in which she led our institution to surpass goals in student enrollment, fundraising and cost control. We wish her all the best in the next phase of her professional journey.”
In announcing her decision, Dr. Dubroy said that “This was one of the most difficult decisions of my professional life. I envision the successes that our faculty, staff and I achieved together will continue to support Shaw’s forward motion into a strong and vibrant future.”
A native of Jamaica, Dr. Dubroy is a graduate of Shaw University. She holds an MBA from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry from North Carolina State University.
