Notre Dame Law Professor Nominated for the U.S. Court of Appeals

Notre Dame Law Professor Amy BarrettEarlier this week, President Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. The court is based in Chicago. She is the Diane and M.O. Miller II Research Chair in Law and Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame.

Professor Barrett joined the faculty at the University of Notre Dame in 2002. Earlier, she was an associate at Miller, Cassidy, Larroca & Lewin in Washington D.C. After law school, she clerked for a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia and for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. She also taught as a visiting scholar at the George Washington University Law School and the University of Virginia School of Law.

Professor Barrett is a magna cum laude graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, where she majored in English literature. She then was a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame School of Law, where she was executive editor of the Notre Dame Law Review.

Professor Barrett needs to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate in order to take her seat on the Appeals Court.
