Jeannette Wing was appointed professor of computer science and the Avanessians Director of the Data Sciences Institute at Columbia University in New York City. She currently serves as corporate vice president of Microsoft Research.
Dr. Wing is the former chair of the computer science department and former associate dean for academic affairs at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Verity Harte, the George A. Saden Professor of Philosophy and Classics at Yale University, was appointed chair of the department of philosophy at the university. She joined the faculty at Yale in 2006. Professor Harte is the author of Plato on Parts and Whole: The Metaphysics of Structure (Clarendon Press, 2002).
Dr. Harte holds a bachelor’s degree in classics and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in philosophy, all from the University of Cambridge in England.
Sanjyot Mehendale, a lecturer in the department of Near Eastern Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, was named director of the university’s new P.Y. and Kinmay W. Tang Center for Silk Road Studies. She is the co-editor of Central Asia and the Caucasus: Transnationalism and Diaspora (Routledge, 2005).
Dr. Mehendale is a graduate of the University of Amsterdam, where she majored in art and archaeology. She holds a master’s degree from Rijksuniversity of Leiden in The Netherlands and a Ph.D. in Near Eastern studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
Laurie Bellows, a professor of practice in educational psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has been given the added duties of interim vice chancellor for student affairs. She has been serving as acting dean of graduate studies.
Dr. Bellows holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Nebraska.
Leslie Richardson was appointed the inaugural director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at Florida State University. She was director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching at Florida International University in Miami. Earlier, Dr. Richardsofor eight years at Xavier University.
Dr. Richardson is a graduate of Florida State University, where she majored in English. She holds a doctoral degree from Tulane University in New Orleans.
Angela Morgan, an associate professor of finance at Clemson University in South Carolina, was named chair of the department of finance. She joined the Clemson University faculty in 2000.
Dr. Morgan is a graduate of Clemson University, where she majored in financial management. She holds an MBA and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Georgia.
Sara Day, an associate professor and assistant dean of nursing at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, has been given the added duties as director of the new Center for Community Partnerships and Nursing Innovation.
Dr. Day joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee in 2016. Earlier, she taught at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
Renee LeClair is a new associate professor and chair of the department of biomedical science at the Carilion School of Medicine of Virginia Tech in Roanoke. She was a clinical associate professor of biomedical sciences at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Greenville.
Dr. LeClair is a graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington, where she majored in biology. She holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and cellular biology from Rice University in Houston, Texas.
