Three Women Scholars Who Are Leaving Their Posts in Higher Education

Kathleen Keane, director of the Johns Hopkins University Press, will retire on April 14. She has served as the director of the press since 2004 and led the organization’s transition to the digital publishing age. Keane joined the press in 2002 as director of finance and operations.

The John Hopkins University Press publishes about 150 books each year and manages the largest journal publishing operation of any university press based in the Unite States.

Patty S. Freedson, professor of kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, recently retired after serving for 35 years on the university’s faculty. She chaired the department of kinesiology for nine years.

Dr. Freedson earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in exercise physiology, all from the University of Michigan.

Ruth A. Knox is stepping down as president of Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, on June 30. She has served as the college’s 24th president since 2003.

President Knox is a graduate of Wesleyan College and the University of Georgia School of Law. Before being named president of the college, she had a private law practice in Atlanta.
