Anne Lambright, the Charles A. Dana Research Professor of Language and Culture Studies and dean of academic affairs at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, is the winner of the 26th annual Katherine Singer Kovacs Prize presented by the Modern Language Association. The prize honors an outstanding book published in English or Spanish in the field of Latin American or Spanish literatures and cultures.
Dr. Lambright was honored for her book Andean Truths: Transitional Justice, Ethnicity, and Cultural Production in Post-Shining Path Peru (Liverpool University Press, 2016). The award committee stated that the book “offers a versatile analysis and discussion on the role of literary works, films, theater, and performance in a nation engaging critical and intellectual dialogues on memory, trauma, gender, ethnicity, and political history. Original and broadly interpretive, this book is an excellent study of the complex relations among art, literature, politics, and society.”
Professor Lambright is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Latin American literature at the University of Texas. An earlier book authored by Professor Lambright is Creating the Hybrid Intellectual: Subject, Space, and the Feminine in the Narrative of José MarÃa Arguedas (Bucknell University Press, 2007). And she is the co-editor of Unfolding the City: Women Write the City in Latin America (University of Minnesota Press, 2007).
