New Assignments in Higher Education for 10 Women Faculty Members

Caroline Haythornthwaite, a professor of library and information science at Syracuse University in New York, was named director of the university’s graduate programs in the field. Professor Haythornthwaite joined the Syracuse University faculty earlier this year after serving as the director of the School of Library, Archival, and Information Studies at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Haythornthwaite is a graduate of Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.

Debra Foster Greene was appointed interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. She has been a faculty member at the university for 20 years and served for eight years as chair of the department of history, political science, and philosophy.

Dr. Greene is a graduate of Alcorn State University in Mississippi. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in American history from the University of Missouri.

Katharina Rosenberger, a professor of music at the University of California, San Diego, was named composer-in-residence at the Qualcomm Institute of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology.

Dr. Rosenberger grew up in Switzerland. She studied music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and earned a doctorate of musical arts from Columbia University in New York City. Professor Rosenberger joined the faculty at the University of California San Diego in 2008.

Deanna Behring, director of international programs for the College of Agricultural Sciences and an affiliated faculty member in School of International Affairs at Pennsylvania State University, has been given the added duties of assistant dean for international programs. A former analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency, Dr. Behring served as assistant director for international affairs in the Office of Science and Technology Policy at the White House during the Clinton administration.

Dr. Behring is a graduate of Albion College in Michigan. She earned a master’s degree in international development at Ohio University and a Ph.D. in communications arts and science at Pennsylvania State University.

Anna Leiker, an adjunct faculty member in the fashion design program at Woodbury University in Burbank, California, for the past 17 years, was named chair of the department of fashion design.

Leiker is a graduate of Moscow State University of Design and Technology in Russia. She earned a master’s degree in textile and apparel design from California State University, Northridge.

Donna Strum, professor and chair of the department of pharmacy administration at the University of Mississippi, was named associate provost at the university. She joined the faculty at the University of Mississippi in 2008 after teaching at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science in Little Rock.

Professor Strum holds three degrees from the University of Mississippi, including a doctorate in pharmacy administration.

Maryse Bourgault was hired as an assistant professor of cropping systems at the Northern Agricultural Research Center at Montana State University. She has been conducting agricultural research in Uzbekistan, Germany, and Australia.

Dr. Bourgault holds bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Deborah Baldwin, a professor of history and director of the Center for Arkansas History and Culture at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, has been given the added duties of interim provost. She is expected to serve in the role of provost for the remainder of the academic year.

Dr. Baldwin has been on the university’s faculty since 1980. She is the author of Protestants and the Mexican Revolution: Missionaries, Ministers, and Social Change (University of Illinois Press, 1990). Dr. Baldwin earned her Ph.D. at the University of Chicago.

Signe Peterson Flieger, was appointed to the Tufts Health Plan Professorship in Health Care Policy Research. She is an assistant professor in the department of public health and community medicine at Tufts University in Massachusetts.

Dr. Flieger is a graduate of Harvard University. She holds a master of social work degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Georgia E. Hodes is a new assistant professor in the School of Neuroscience at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. She has been teaching at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

Dr. Hodes is a graduate of Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson, New York, where she majored in drama and dance. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology from Rutgers University in New Jersey.
