Barnard College Scholar Dusa McDuff Earns a Major Mathematics Prize

Dusa McDuffDusa McDuff, the Helen Lyttle Kimmel ’42 Professor of Mathematics at Barnard College in New York City, has been selected to receive the Leroy P. Steele Prize for Exposition from the American Mathematical Society. The prize recognizes contributions to geometry and topology.

Professor McDuff is being honored for her book J-holomorphic Curves and Symplectic Topology (American Mathematical Society, 2012). She will share the award with her co-author, Dietmar Salamon. The pair will be honored at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Atlanta on January 5.

Professor McDuff joined the Barnard faculty in 2007. She is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in England.
