Three Women Who Are Leaving Their Posts in Higher Education

atchisonKathryn Atchinson, vice provost for new collaborative initiatives at the University of California, Los Angeles, has resigned her post and has returned to the faculty full time. She is a professor in the Division of Public Health and Community Dentistry in the UCLA School of Dentistry.

Dr. Atchinson had served in the post since 2011. From 2005 to 2011, Dr. Atchinson was vice provost of intellectual property and industry relations. She holds a doctorate in dental science from Marquette University in Milwaukee and a master of public health degree from Boston University.

lfaure_pjensencrop-221x300Laura D. Faure, the fourth director of the Bates Dance Festival and a lecturer at Bates College in Maine, will step down at the end of the 2017. It will be the 30th year that she has directed the festival.

Faure is a founding member of The African Contemporary Arts Consortium and has been a project coordinator and consultant for the National Endowment for the Arts Advancement Program.

karegaJoy Karega, an assistant professor of rhetoric and composition at Oberlin College in Ohio, has been dismissed from her faculty position following an investigation of her remarks regarding the nation of Israel. She had been placed on leave in August while the investigation took place.

The board of trustees said it made its decision because Dr. Karega failed “to meet the academic standards that Oberlin requires of its faculty” and for “failing to demonstrate intellectual honesty.”

Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
