Two Women Academics Elected to Lead National Organizations

Mary M. Case has been elected president of the Association of Research Libraries. The association, which was founded in 1932, represents 124 member institutions throughout the United States and Canada. Case is a professor, university librarian, and dean of libraries at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has been on the staff at the university since 2004. Earlier, Case was director of the Office of Scholarly Communication for the Association of Research Libraries.
Dean Case is a summa cum laude graduate of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York. She holds a master’s degree in speech communication from Syracuse University and a master of library and information science degree from the University of Michigan.
Lora Lee Howard is the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension agent for family and consumer sciences education in Clay County. She has been named president-elect of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She will serve one year as president-elect and then become president of the organization a year later. The organization provides support for educational programs in food preparation, food safety and nutrition, financial management, healthy lifestyles, home and work environment and safety, relationship and parenting skills and more.
Since 1981, Howard has spearheaded many programs and services for the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension, many of them supporting women’s health and nutrition.
