Birmingham-Southern College Names Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith as Its Fifteenth President

The next president of Birmingham-Southern CollegeThe Board of Trustees of Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama has appointed Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith as the college’s 15th president. The college enrolls about 1,200 undergraduate students. Women make up 46 percent of the student body.

Since 2013, Flaherty-Goldsmith has worked as a pro bono consultant with Human Rights First, a non-profit, nonpartisan human rights organization. Earlier she was chief of staff for the president of Birmingham-Southern College. Before coming to Birmingham-Southern College, Flaherty-Goldsmith served as vice president and chief operating officer at the University of Connecticut. Earlier, she was vice chancellor for financial affairs for the University of Alabama System from 1993-1998, and prior to that she served 13 years in key financial roles at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

“Birmingham-Southern is one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the Southeast, and I am honored to have been chosen to provide the leadership the college deserves,” Flaherty-Goldsmith said. “The college has great faculty, staff, and students, and I am excited to be given the opportunity to work alongside these talented individuals toward expanded horizons.”

Flaherty-Goldsmith is a graduate of the University of Alabama. She holds an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
