A Milestone Appointment at the U.S. Military Academy

cindyjebbColonel Cindy Jebb, chair of the department of social sciences at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, has been chosen by President Obama as the next dean of the academic board at West Point. If her nomination is approved by the United States Senate, Colonel Jebb will be promoted to brigadier general and would serve as the first woman dean in the 216-year history of the U.S. Military Academy. Women were first permitted to enroll at West Point in 1976.

“I am honored to have been nominated to serve as the dean of West Point,” Jebb said in the release. “Should Congress confirm my nomination, I will be privileged to lead a team of professionals who are dedicated to academic excellence in support of our mission to graduate leaders of character.”

Colonel Jebb is a graduate of West Point and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She also earned a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Colonel Jebb has served in Iraq and was the deputy commander of the 704th Military Intelligence Brigade.
