Maricopa Community College District Names Its New Chancellor

harper-marinickMaria Harper-Marnick was named chancellor of the Maricopa Community College District in Arizona. The community college system includes 10 campuses and serves more than 265,000 students annually.

Dr. Harper-Marnick has been serving as interim chancellor since March. Since 2010 she has been executive vice president and provost for the Maricopa Community College District.

In accepting her new role as chancellor, Dr. Harper-Marnick stated: “I will serve Maricopa with a commitment to excellence, innovation and accountability for all people, beginning with myself, and transparency and integrity. There’s nothing more that I want than for Maricopa Community Colleges to be the best and most admired system of community colleges — and quite frankly, I’m ready to do the work.”

A native of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Harper-Marnick holds a master’s degree in instructional media and a Ph.D. in educational technology from Arizona State University.

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
