West Virginia University Scholar Honored by the Organization of American Historians

fonesElizabeth Fones-Wolf, a professor of history in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia, received the 2016 David Montgomery Award from the Organization of American Historians. The award is given annually to authors of the best book on American labor or working-class history. Professor Fones-Wolf shares the honor with her husband and co-authofones-wolf bookr Ken Fones-Wolf, who is also a professor at the university.

The two scholars are being honored for their book Struggle for the Soul of the Postwar South: White Evangelical Protestants and Operation Dixie (University of Illinois Press, 2015). The book examines the role played by evangelical protestants in the battle for and against union membership in the South.

Elizabeth Fones-Wolf holds bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Maryland. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts.
