Two Women Named to Endowed Chairs at Colgate University

Colgate UniversityThe board of trustees at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, approved the appointment of two women scholars to endowed chairs.

faye-duddenFaye Dudden was named to the Charles A. Dana Professor of History. She joined the faculty at Colgate University in 1982. She is the author of Fighting Chance: The Struggle Over Woman Suffrage and Black Suffrage in Reconstruction America (Oxford University Press, 2011). Professor Dudden is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Rochester in New York.

nancy-ries---peace-and-conflict-studies-facultyNancy Ries was appointed to the Christian A. Johnson Chair in liberal arts studies. Her research focuses on political culture in Russia from the 1980s to the present. Dr. Ries has served as chair of the department of sociology and anthropology at Colgate. She was a co-editor of Cornell University Press’ Culture and Society After Socialism series. Professor Ries is a graduate of Boston College. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.
