Nancy Targett Named the Next Provost at the University of New Hampshire

Nancy M. Targett was named as the next provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. She is currently serving as acting president of the University of Delaware. Dr. Targett will begin her new job in New Hampshire on September 1.
Mark Huddleston, president of the University of New Hampshire, said that “Nancy brings an enormous breadth of experience to this role. She recognizes the many challenges facing higher education across the country. I am confident she is the person to strengthen the quality of our academic and research programs as we enhance UNH’s profile as a top-tier research university.”
Dr. Targett has been a member of the faculty at the University of Delaware since 1984. She became acting president in July 2015 and will serve until July 1, 2016. Previously, she served as dean of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment at the university and as director of the Delaware Sea Grant College Program.
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Targett holds a master’s degree in marine science from the University of Miami and a Ph.D. in oceanography from the University of Maine.
