Three Women Named to Distinguished Professorships at the State University of New York

suny_logo_detailThe board of trustees of the State University of New York, recently elevated 10 faculty members to the Distinguished Faculty Rank. Three women are among this group of 10 scholars.

wendeJean Wactawski-Wende is a professor of epidemiology and dean of the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the University at Buffalo. She is a leader of the National Institutes of Health’s Women’s Health Initiative, a clinical trial involving more than 162,000 women across the United States. Dr. Wactawski-Wende is a graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University at Buffalo.

NancyNancy Hollingsworth is a professor of biochemistry and cell biology at Stony Brook University on Long Island. She has been on the faculty at the university since 1994. Her research focuses on chromosome behavior during meiosis, a specialized type of cell division used by sexually reproducing organisms. Dr. Hollingsworth holds a Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Washington.

Libby Tucker Hi-ResElizabeth Tucker is a professor of English at Binghamton University. She is the author of five books including Haunted Halls: Ghostlore of American College Campuses (University of Mississippi Press, 2007). She recently completed a three-year term as president of the International Society for Contemporary Legend Research and is a past editor of the Children’s Folklore Review. She earned a Ph.D. at Indiana University.

On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
