Charlene Moore Hayes was named the inaugural senior executive for human capital strategy at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. In this role she will serve as a senior adviser to the university’s president. For the past 12 years, Hayes has served as vice president for human resources at the university.
Hayes is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she majored in Africana studies. She earned a law degree at George Washington University.
Christina Gonzales is the new vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She has been on the staff at the university since 2012 and has served as interim vice chancellor since July.
Gonzales is a graduate of Western New Mexico University in Silver City. She hold a master’s degree in educational leadership from New Mexico State University.
Iessa J. Sutton was appointed campus operating officer for the downtown Brooklyn campus of Berkeley College. She joined the staff at Berkeley College in 2012 and has been serving as senior director in the career services department.
Sutton is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University in Georgia. She holds a master’s degree in organization management and is working on a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Phoenix.
Cheryl Ann Matherly, was named vice president and vice provost for international affairs at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She is vice provost for global education at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. Dr. Matherly will begin her new duties on March 31.
Dr. Matherly is a graduate of the University of New Mexico, where she double majored in English literature and political science. She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University and an educational doctorate from the University of Houston.
DeAngela Burns-Wallace was appointed vice provost for undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas. She will also hold a courtesy faculty appointment in the department of educational leadership and policy studies in the university’s School of Education. Dr. Burns-Wallace was the assistant vice provost for undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Dr. Burns-Wallace is a graduate of Stanford University, where she majored in international relations and African American studies. She holds a master’s degree in public policy and international affairs from Princeton University and an educational doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.
Stacy Vander Velde was named director of student conduct at West Virginia University. She has been serving as associate director of the Office of Student Conflict Resolution at the University of Michigan.
Vander Velde is a graduate of Indiana University, where she majored in criminal justice. She holds a master’s degree in college student personnel administration from Western Michigan University.
Alexia Whitaker was named affirmative action officer at the University of Washington in Seattle. She was program manager in the Office of Affirmative Action at Arkansas State University.
Whitaker is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she majored in African American studies and sociology. She earned a law degree at DePaul University in Chicago.
Dana Allen was appointed vice president of alumni relations and executive director of the Alumni Association at the University of New Mexico. She was assistant vice president for alumni relations at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Allen is a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she majored in speech communication.
Angela Williams was promoted to assistant vice provost for student affairs and executive director of the Career Development Center at the University of Arkansas. She was the director of the Career Development Center.
Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in counseling education, and a doctorate in adult education, all from the University of Arkansas.
Taran Cardone was named director of strengths-based learning at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She was the director of student life curriculum and residential staff development at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Cardone is a graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. She earned a master’s degree in student affairs in higher education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Rhonda Brandon was appointed chief human resources officer for the Duke University Health System. She is senior vice president and chief human resources officer for BJC Healthcare in St. Louis. She will begin her new duties at Duke on February 1.
Brandon is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia, where she majored in mass communication. She holds a master’s degree in organization development from American University in Washington, D.C.
