Five Women Academics Honored With Awards From National Organizations

kumar_560Preethika Kumar, associate professor of electrical engineering at Wichita State University in Kansas, has been selected to receive the 2015 C. Holmes MacDonald Outstanding Teacher Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. She will be honored at a ceremony in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in November.

Dr. Kumar is a graduate of Bangalore University in India. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Wichita State University. She joined the faculty at Wichita State in 2007.

hoskinsDionne Hoskins, associate professor of marine sciences at Savannah State University in Georgia, received the 2015 Emmeline Moore Prize from the American Fisheries Society. The award honors an individual who has “demonstrated a strong commitment and exemplary service to ensuring equal opportunity access to higher education in fisheries.”

Dr. Hoskins is a graduate of Savannah State University. She holds a Ph.D. in marine sciences from the University of South Carolina.

ColellaChristineChristine Colella, an associate professor and director of nurse practitioner programs at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing, received the Excellence and Innovation and Teaching Award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Dr. Colella has been on the university’s faculty since 1995 and has taught online courses since 2009.

Dr. Colella holds a master’s degree in nursing and a doctor of nursing practice degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Marsha-LinehanMarsha Linehan, professor of psychology and director of the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics at the University of Washington, has been selected to receive the 2015 Scientific Research Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness. She will receive the award in Washington, D.C., on October 8.

Professor Linehan holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Loyola University in Chicago. She is the author of several books including Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder (Guilford Press, 1993).

Rebecca Campbell, a professor of psychology at Michigan State University, has been selected to receive the 2016 Visionary Award from End Violence Against Women International, headquartered in Addy, Washington. Professor Campbell is being honored for her research on the response of legal, medical, and mental health systems to the needs of rape survivors.

Dr. Campbell has been on the faculty at Michigan State since 2003 and was promoted to full professor in 2008. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in ecological/community psychology from Michigan State University.
