Four Women Named to Endowed Chairs at Major Universities

NortonJoAnne Norton will hold the Rick Muth Chair in Family Business in the College of Business and Economics at California State University, Fullerton. Dr. Norton is a partner in the Family Business Consulting Group and has been an adjunct lecturer at the university for seven years.

Dr. Norton holds a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

Catherine-StaubCatherine Staub will be the inaugural holder of the Peggy Fisher and Larry Stelter Chair of Magazine Journalism in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She is the chief executive officer of Lexicon Content Marketing in Des Moines.

Dr. Staub holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism, a master’s degree in journalism and an educational doctorate, all from Drake University.

demetrioDenise Demetriou was appointed to the Gerry and Jeannie Ranglas Endowed Chair in Ancient Greek History at the University of California, San Diego. For nearly the past decade, she has taught ancient Greek history at Michigan State University. Dr. Demetriou is the author of Negotiating Identity in the Ancient Mediterranean: The Archaic and Classical Greek Multiethnic Emporia (Cambridge University Press, 2012).

Professor Demetriou is a graduate of Amherst College in Massachusetts. She holds a master’s degree from the University of London and a Ph.D. in classics from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

JoAnne-AkalaitisJoAnne Akalaitis was named to the Denzel Washington Endowed Chair in Theatre at Fordham University in New York. Professor Akalaitis is an award-winning director and founder of the experimental theater company Mabou Mines in New York City. She has taught at the Julliard School in New York and Bard College.

Professor Akalaitis is a graduate of the University of Chicago, where she majored in philosophy. She later studied theater at the Actor’s Workshop in San Francisco.
