Notable Honors and Awards for Four Women Scholars

huerta_tTeresa Huerta, an associate professor of literary, early, bilingual, and special education at California State University, Fresno, received the 2015 Educator of the Year Award from the Association of Mexican American Educators. She joined the faculty at the university in 2006.

Dr. Huerta is a graduate of California State University, Fresno, where she majored in liberal studies. She earned a master’s degree in education at California State University, San Diego and a doctorate in education at Harvard University.

Charmaine-Cadeau1Charmaine Cadeau, an assistant professor of English at High Point University in North Carolina, received the ReLit Award, which honors the best new books from Canadian independent publishers. Dr. Cadeau was honored for her poetry collection Placeholder (Brick Books, 2013).

A native of Toronto, Dr. Cadeau holds a master’s degree from the University of New Brunswick and a Ph.D. in literature from the University at Albany of the State University of New York System.

grigsbyJ. Elisenda Grigsby, an assistant professor of mathematics at Boston College, is the inaugural recipient of the Joan and Joseph Birman Research Prize in Topology and Geometry presented by the Association for Women in Mathematics. Dr. Grigsby joined the faculty at Boston College in 2009.

Dr. Grigsby is a graduate of Harvard University and holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley.

irelandMary Lloyd Ireland, an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Kentucky, received the 2015 Citation Award from the American College of Sports Medicine. She specializes in ACL injuries of women athletes.

Dr. Ireland is a graduate of the University of Memphis and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine.
