In Memoriam: Mamie Salva’ Patterson, 1921-2015

Mamie Salva’ Patterson, who taught Spanish at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia for a quarter of a century, died earlier this month. She was 93 years old.
A native of Puerto Rico, Dr. Patterson joined the Roanoke College faculty in 1962. She was a member of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. A scholarship and a meeting room in the student center at the college are named in her honor.
Professor Patterson was a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico. She earned a master’s degree at the University of North Carolina and a Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky.
