The University of Houston is offering a new bachelor’s degree program in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. In the past, there was only a minor concentration in the subject area.
Elizabeth Gregory, professor of English and director of the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies program at the University of Houston, said that “as gender roles shift quickly in all professions and realms of private and public life and the contributions of women and people of diverse sexualities are increasingly recognized and valued, a major that prepares graduates to ably negotiate these changes provides an important groundwork for success, for both students and the community.”
Professor Gregory is the author of Ready: Why Women Are Embracing the New Later Motherhood (Basic Books, 2012). She is a graduate of Barnard College in New York City and holds a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. from Yale University.
