Ten Women in New Faculty Roles at U.S. Colleges and Universities

QuijanoMargot Quijano was promoted to associate professor and awarded tenure at Texas State University in San Marcos. According to the Ph.D. project, Dr. Quijano is one of only 12 Hispanic women teaching finance at business schools in the United States.

Dr. Quijano earned a Ph.D. at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

jegelka_photoStefanie Jegelka is a new assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was conducting postdoctoral research at the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Jegelka holds a diploma in bioinformatics from the University of Tuebingen in Germany and a Ph.D. in computer sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.

auslanderLeora Auslander is the inaugural Arthur and Joann Rasmussen Professor in Western Civilization at the University of Chicago. She was serving as a professor of modern European social history at the university. Professor Auslander joined the faculty at the University of Chicago in 1987. She is the author of Cultural Revolutions: Everyday Life and Politics in Britain, North America, and France (University of California Press, 2009).

Dr. Auslander is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She holds a master’s degree in history from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in history from Brown University.

ellerbeck-kathryn-3097Kathryn Ellerbeck, an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center, has been given the additional responsibility of co-director of the Kansas Center for Autism Research and Training on the Edwards campus of the university in Overland Park.

Dr. Ellerbeck earned her bachelor’s degree and medical degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She holds a master of public health degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

DebraRombergerDebra Romberger was named the Henry J. Lenhoff Professor and chair of the department of internal medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She has been on the faculty at the university since 1990 and was promoted to full professor in 2005.

Dr. Romberger is a graduate of Kansas State University and earned her medical degree at the University of Kansas.

Dana-Levin-by-Anne-Staveley.web_Dana Levin will be the inaugural Distinguished Writer-in-Residence at Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri. She has been serving as co-chair of the creative writing and literature department at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design in New Mexico. She is the author of three poetry collections including her most recent book Sky Burial (Copper Canyon Press, 2011).

Levin is a graduate of Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and earned a master’s degree in creative writing at New York University.

guptaAarti Gupta is a new full professor of computer science at Princeton University in New Jersey. For the past 20 years, she has worked for NEC Laboratories as a systems analyst.

Dr. Gupta is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology. She holds a master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

ericka-albaughEricka A. Albaugh was promoted to associate professor of government and legal studies at Bowdoin College in Maine. She was also granted tenure. She is the author of State Building and Multilingual Education in Africa (Cambridge University Press, 2014).

Dr. Albaugh is a graduate of Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. She holds a master’s degree from Tufts University and a Ph.D. from Duke University.

RadovickSally Radovick was appointed professor of pediatrics and senior associate dean for clinical and translational research at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Dr. Radovick was the Lawson Wilkins Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.

Professor Radovick holds bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry and a master’s degree in theoretical chemistry from Youngstown State University in Ohio. She is a graduate of the Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Karen Kal AlstonKal Alston, the senior vice president for human capital development at Syracuse University in New York will be relinquishing many of her administrative duties to return to her position as professor of the cultural foundations of education and women’s and gender studies.

Dr. Alston joined the faculty at Syracuse University in 2005 after teaching at the University of Illinois, where she was director of the women’s studies program. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
