Lindsay R. Wilkinson, an assistant professor of sociology at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, received the 2014 Senior Service America Junior Scholar Award from the Gerontological Society of America. The award recognizes applied research on the capabilities, contributions, challenges, and concerns of disadvantaged older adults.
Dr. Wilkinson joined the Baylor University faculty last fall after completing her Ph.D. in sociology and gerontology at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and a master’s degree in sociology from Purdue University.
Holly Goddard Jones, an associate professor of English in the creative writing program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has been selected to receive the Judy Gaines Young Book Award from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. She is being honored for her debut novel The Next Time You See Me (Touchtone Books, 2013).
Professor Jones is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Ohio State University.
Chiaki Takagi, a lecturer in Japanese at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro received the 2014 Teacher Award from the American Association of Teachers of Japanese.
Dr. Takagi holds a master’s degree in African American literature from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro and a Ph.D. in postcolonial literatures and theory from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Nancy J. Miller, professor and chair of the department of design and merchandising at Colorado State University, was named a fellow of the International Textile and Apparel Association, the highest honor bestowed by the organization.
Dr. Miller holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D., all from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Nancy de Grummond, the M. Lynette Thompson Professor of Classics at Florida State University in Tallahassee, received the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award from the Archaeological Institute of America. For the past 30 years, she has taken undergraduate students on archaeological digs in Italy.
Professor de Grummond holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Laura Laster, director of flight operations at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, has been selected as the winner of the 2015 Management Award from Women in Aviation International. She will receive the award at the group’s annual conference in March.
Laster manages all of the university’s flight training activities and supervises 11 flight instructors. She is a summa cum laude graduate of LeTourneau University.
