Two High-Level Administrators Announce Their Retirements

martin-thumbAnna Martin, vice president for administration at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, has announced that she will retire at some point early in the spring semester. She has been on the staff at the university since 2001. Previously, Martin was executive director in the office of the under secretary at the Smithsonian Institution. Earlier in her career, she was the special assistant to the general manager of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Martin is a graduate of Lake Forest College in Illinois, where she majored in government. She holds a master’s degree in education from Virginia Tech.

betstBrownBetsy E. Brown, vice provost for faculty affairs at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, has announced that she will retire at the end of the academic year. She joined the staff at the university in 2006 as a special assistant to the provost and was promoted to her current post in 2008. Prior to joining the staff at North Carolina State University, Dr. Brown was associate vice president for academic affairs for the University of North Carolina System and earlier was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Winthrop University in Rock, Hill, South Carolina. She is the co-author of Faculty Career Paths: Multiple Routes to Academic Success and Satisfaction (Greenwood Press, 2006).

Dr. Brown is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from Ohio State University.
