Five Women Join the Full-Time Faculty at Bridgewater College in Virginia

BridgewaterBridgewater College in Virginia has announced the hiring of 11 new faculty members for the 2014-15 academic year. The liberal arts college enrolls about 1,850 students and women make up 55 percent of the student body. Among the new hires are three women assistant professors and two women instructors.

Susan Dixon is a new instructor in the department of world languages and cultures. Dr. Dixon is a graduate of Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, where she majored in English and French. She earned master’s and doctoral degrees in comparative literature from the University of Paris and a Ph.D. in French from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

bobbi-gentryBobbi Gentry was appointed assistant professor of history and political science. She was an assistant professor of political science at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. Dr. Gentry is a graduate of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she majored in psychology and political science. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Yuka Hiruma Kishida was named an assistant professor of history and political science. She was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Iowa. Dr. Kishida is a graduate of the Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at the University of Iowa.

jenny-martinJenny Martin is a new assistant professor of education. She is a graduate of Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she majored in English and secondary education. Martin earned a master’s degree from Radford University in Virginia and is currently a doctorate candidate in curriculum and instruction at Virginia Tech.

suterGeraldine Suter was appointed instructor in the department of world languages and cultures. She is a 2006 alumna of Bridgewater College, where she majored in English. Suter holds a master’s degree in Germanic languages and literatures from the University of Virginia and a second master’s degree in English from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Virginia.
