Lehigh University Names a STEM Scholarship Program in Honor of Its Departing President

gastIn 2012, Alice P. Gast, then-president of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, announced the establishment of a $1 million scholarship fund to support young women in STEM disciplines at the university. Dr. Gast left Lehigh this summer to become president of Imperial College London.

The trustees of Lehigh University have honored the former president by renaming the STEM scholarship fund in her honor. The Alice P. Gast Women in STEM Scholarship will provide funds for two incoming women each year.

Trustee Jane P. Jamieson stated that the scholarship fund “was very important to Alice. And not only was it something that was important to her, personally, it was also something that was important to Lehigh. To name them in her honor is a wonderful way to celebrate her tenure.”
