Two Women Announce Their Retirements From Key Educational Posts

suzanne-thompsonSuzanne Thompson, a professor of psychology at Pomona College in Claremont, California, has retired and been named professor emerita. Professor Thompson joined the faculty at the college in 1982 and was promoted to full professor in 1988. She served as chair of the department of psychology for three years. During her tenure at Pomona, Dr. Thompson also served as an adjunct professor of psychology at Claremont Graduate University.

Professor Thompson is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. She holds a master’s degree from California State University, Long Beach and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

phillipsMargaret Phillips, vice president for human resources at West Virginia University, has announced that she will step down from her post on November 7. She has served in her present position since 2006 and previously was chief of staff for the university’s president.

Phillips joined the staff at West Virginia University in 1982 as a compensation analyst. She will maintain ties to the university by staying active with the alumni association and recruiting students from southern states.

On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
