Five Woman in New Teaching Roles at Colleges and Universities

Russell_Brenda newswireBrenda Russell was promoted to full professor of psychology at the Berks campus of Pennsylvania State University in Reading. She joined the faculty at the university in 2006. Dr. Russell is the editor of Perceptions of Female Offenders (Springer, 2012) and Battered Woman Syndrome as a Legal Defense: History, Effectiveness, and Implications (McFarland, 2010).

Dr. Russell holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. She earned a Ph.D. in applied experimental psychology at Saint Louis University.

pic_tylerhillYasmin Tyler-Hill was appointed chair of department of pediatrics at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. She has been on the faculty at Morehouse since 2001 and previously served as interim department chair.

A native of South Carolina, Dr. Tyler-Hill is a graduate of Princeton University, where she majored in biology. She earned her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina and completed her internship and residency at the Boston University Medical Center.

BrewerCarol Brewer was named a University at Buffalo Distinguished Professor in the School of Nursing. She also serves as a clinical professor in the department of family medicine in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and as associate dean for academic affairs in the nursing school. Dr. Brewer joined the university’s faculty in 1994.

Professor Brewer holds bachelor’s degrees from Denison University in Ohio and Trenton State College in New Jersey. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Tennessee and a second master’s degree in applied economics and a Ph.D. in nursing systems from the University of Michigan.

OrtizCristina Ortiz was appointed to the Patricia Wood Baer Professorship in Education at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She has been serving as a professor of humanistic studies and chair of the modern languages program at the university.

A graduate of the University of the Basque Country in San Sebastian, Spain, Professor Ortiz earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati.

tomie hahnTomie Hahn, an associate professor of performance ethnology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, was appointed director of the university’s Center for Deep Listening. Dr. Hahn has taught at RPI since 2002.

Dr. Hahn is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington. She holds a master’s degree from New York University and a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University.
