Outgoing University of Michigan President Honored for Her Work in International Education

Mary Sue Coleman, who is stepping down as president of the University of Michigan in July, was presented with the 2014 Cassandra Pyle Award from NAFSA: Association of International Educators. NAFSA was founded in 1948 as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers but changed its name in 1990.

Dr. Coleman was honored for her lifelong impact on international education. During her 12 years as president of the University of Michigan, the number of students who studied abroad each year doubled.

In accepting the award, President Coleman said, “International education is important, sustaining work. It delivers powerful rewards. I can’t think of more important work than joining hands with other universities to transform lives with the power and promise of global knowledge.”
