Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has established a new partnership with Chase Corporation. As part of the partnership, Chase Corporation has dedicated a $50,000 contribution to SWE. The funds include allocations for five $3,000 scholarships awarded in the name of Chase Corporation to students pursuing engineering and technology-related fields. Additionally, Chase engineers will be provided with access to SWE memberships.
Commonwealth University-Lock Haven received a donation from alumna Bonnie L. Gorsic to establish the Bonnie L. Gorsic and Joseph R. Gorsic Sr. Scholarship. The new scholarship will support Lock Haven’s women’s wrestling student-athletes, with preference given to wrestlers majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
The School of Global Health at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, was awarded a $250,000 planning grant from the Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church to advance maternal mental health during the postpartum period. With the new funding, researchers at the college will develop a context-specific model of care designed to strengthen the clinical, social, economic, and political ecosystem surrounding postpartum maternal mental health. The model will seek to reduce silos and gaps in care by aligning four key areas of intervention: clinical practice, institutional processes, community-based initiatives, and advocacy and policy.
