Andrea Borowczak, professor of science education and director of the School of Teacher Education at the University of Central Florida, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society for Engineering Education’s Pre-College Engineering Education division. The honor recognizes Dr. Borowczak’s significant and sustained contributions to the field.
Throughout her career, Dr. Borowczak has conducted extensive research on integrated STEM education, often focusing on how engineering, technology, and math can be woven into the classroom at all levels and across subjects. She is currently exploring how AI should be integrated into classroom teaching and learning. This summer, Dr. Borowczak launched the University of Central Florida’s inaugural “Eclipse” STEM Summer Camp, a two-week program introducing students in the Orlando community to engineering topics.
Before assuming her current role in 2022, Dr. Borowczak was a professor and associate dean for undergraduate programs in the College of Education at the University of Wyoming. A leader in the broader field of STEM education, she previously spent six years as associate editor of the journal Computers in Education. Her career began as a middle and high school science teacher in Florida and Virginia.
Dr. Borowczak is an alumna of the University of Central Florida, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in science education and biology. She holds a master’s degree in science education from Florida State University and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Cincinnati.
