Janet Currie Honored for Lifetime Contributions to Health Economics

Janet Currie, the David Swensen Professor of Economics at Yale University, has received the 2026 Victor R. Fuchs Award for Lifetime Contributions to the Field of Health Economics from the American Society of Health Economics. The annual award honors economists who have made significant scholarly contributions to health economics.

Throughout her nearly four decades in academia, Dr. Currie has been a pioneer in the economics of child development. Her research has examined how early-life conditions, public programs, environmental exposures, mental health care, and medical decision-making shape long-term outcomes. At Yale, she co-directs the Tobin-Cowles Health Economics & Policy Program, which brings together health economists at Yale to discover new policy solutions in health care. Dr. Currie also co-directs the Program on Families and Children at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Dr. Currie earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from the University of Toronto. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University.
