The University of Alabama in Huntsville has promoted three women to the rank of full professor. “Decisions on promotion and tenure are not taken lightly and are the result of extensive reviews by faculty colleagues at the department, college and university levels, and in many cases include evaluations by colleagues from other academic institutions,” noted David Puleo, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.
Maria Pour was promoted to professor of electrical and computer engineering. Dr. Pour’s research interests are in the areas of applied electromagnetics and antennas. She joined the faculty at the university in 2015. Dr. Pour is a graduate of the Sharif University of Technology in Iran. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba in Canada.
Tingting Wu was named a full professor of civil and environmental engineering. Her research interests include sustainable water/wastewater treatment, water reuse, and stormwater/non-point source pollution control. She earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering at Tongji University in China, a master’s degree in engineering from the National University of Singapore and a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of Florida.
Darlene Showalter was appointed a full clinical professor of nursing. She is the coordinator of the doctor of nursing practice degree program at the university. Dr. Showalter joined the College of Nursing faculty in 1998. Professor Showalter is a graduate of Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee, where she majored in nursing. She earned a master’s degree in nursing at the University of South Carolina and a doctor of nursing practice degree from the University of Alabama.
Dr. Gonko has led Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Michigan on an interim basis for the past year. She will assume the presidency of Macomb Community College on July 1.
Since 2014, Dr. Lynch has been the associate vice chancellor for educational development and technologies for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. She has been selected to serve as interim president of the system's Central Lakes College beginning on July 1.
Lesley Reid and Lynne Cossman are the new permanent provosts of the University of Alabama and the University of Massachusetts Lowell, respectively. Brooke Blevins was tapped to serve as interim provost at the University of Idaho.
Dr. Balidemaj-Basha has been a member of the RIT Kosovo community for nearly two decades. Most recently, she served as dean of faculty. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Dr. Balidemaj-Basha earned her Ph.D. from Clemson University in South Carolina.
Braswell comes to her new appointment with extensive leadership experience in state government, including her current role as general counsel to Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont. In her new role, she will provide strategic oversight for the 16 campuses within Connecticut's public higher education system.
