Postdoctoral Program at MIT Expands Research Opportunities for Saudia Arabian Women

The Center for Clean Water and Clean Energy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has greatly expanded a postdoctoral fellowship program for Saudi Arabian women scientists and engineers. The fellowship is supported by funding from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and Saudi Aramco Inc.

Malak-Al-Nory_listitemThe first Ibn Khaldun Fellow, Malak Al-Nory, came to MIT in September 2012. She held a bachelor’s and master’s degree from King Abdulaziz University and a Ph.D. from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. While at MIT, she conducted research in water desalination. She has now returned to Saudi Arabia as an assistant professor at Effat University in Jeddah.

Now, the program has been expanded to fund five to 10 fellows each year for the next five years. The first cohort is now on the MIT campus.
