Diane F. Halpern was appointed dean of the Minerva School of Arts and Sciences in San Francisco. The new school will enroll its first students this fall. Dr. Halpern has been serving as the McElwee Family Professor of Psychology at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California. Professor Halpern has taught at Claremont McKenna since 2001. Previously she served for 20 years on the faculty of California State University, San Bernardino.
Dr. Halpern is a past president of the American Psychological Association. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Professor Halpern earned a master’s degree at Temple University in Philadelphia and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati. She is the author or co-author of more than 20 books including Sex Differences in Cognitive Abilities, now in its fourth edition.
Marta Meana was named dean of the Honors College at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. She has been serving as interim dean since July 2012 and has been on the psychology department faculty at the university since 1997.
Professor Meana holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from McGill University in Montreal. She did postdoctoral research in women’s health at the University of Toronto. She is the author ofSexual Dysfunction in Women (Hogrefe Publishing, 2012).
