Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
Last summer, the campus of Ursuline College, a college for women in Pepper Pike, Ohio, just east of Cleveland, was hit by a tornado. The tornado did considerable damage. The roof and some of the walls of the college’s gymnasium were ripped from their foundations. Trees were uprooted throughout campus and other buildings were damaged by flying debris. An anonymous donor recently gave the women’s college $1 million to help rebuild its athletics center.
Bryn Mawr College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in suburban Philadelphia, received a $800,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to continue to develop its “blending learning” program which include both online and classroom instruction.
Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, received a four-year, $420,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education for its Center for Child Development. The grant funds will be used to provide child care facilities for student parents and to hire a parent support specialist who will coordinate university programs aimed at helping students with children.
