Two Women Named Directors of Interdisciplinary Academic Programs at Florida Atlantic University

fauFlorida Atlantic University in Boca Raton has announced the appointments of two women as directors of interdisciplinary programs in the College of Arts and Letters.

Barbara Ganson will serve as the director of the Caribbean and Latin American studies program. She is an associate professor of history at the university. She is the author of The Guarani Under Spanish Rule in the Rio de la Plata (Stanford University Press, 2003). Her latest book, Texas Takes Wing: A Century of Flight in the Lone Star State, will be published in December by the University of Texas Press.

Dr. Ganson has served as president of two historical organizations: the Southwestern Historical Association and the Latin American and Caribbean History Section of the Southern Historical Association. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas.

Lynn Appleton was named acting director of the Center for Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She is chair of the department of sociology at the university.
