Seven Women in New Teaching Roles

AllysonWatsonAllyson L. Watson was named to the Eddings Endowed Chair for Urban Education, Outreach, and Research at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

Dr. Watson is a graduate of Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Oklahoma.

hjelmeaAnita B. Hjelmeland is a new assistant professor of cell developmental and integrative biology in the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama Birmingham. She comes to the university after serving at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Hjelmeland is a graduate of North Carolina State University. She earned a Ph.D. in pharmacology and cancer biology at Duke University.

Mary RizzoMary Rizzo was appointed public-historian-in-residence at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities on the Camden campus of Rutgers University. She will serve as co-editor of The Public Historian, a journal published by the University of California Press. Dr. Rizzo was the associate director and acting executive director of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.

Dr. Rizzo is a graduate of the College of New Jersey and earned a Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Minnesota.

regina-dehenRegina Dehen was named chief medical officer at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. She was chair of clinical medicine at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine.

Dr. Dehen holds a master’s degree from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and a doctor of naturopathic medicine degree from the National College of Natural Medicine.

pamplin-steinSarah Stein is a new assistant professor of accounting and information systems at the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg.

Dr. Stein holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Missouri.

Amaro_HortensiaHortensia Amaro was named Dean’s Professor of Social Work at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She will also serve as associate vice provost of community research initiatives. Before coming to USC, she taught at Northeastern University and Boston University.

Dr. Amaro holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of California at Los Angeles.

SuzanneWilsonThis fall Suzanne Wilson is joining the faculty at the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut. She was a University Distinguished Professor of education at Michigan State University and chair of the department of teacher education.

Professor Wilson is a graduate of Brown University and holds a master’s degree in statistics and a doctorate in education from Stanford University.
