Six Women Named to Dean Positions

Franquiz-BRJ_PhotoMaria E. Franquiz was named the next dean of the College of Education at the University of Utah. She will take office in January. Currently, she holds the Maxine Faculty Fellowship in Education and is assistant dean for faculty development at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Franquiz is co-editor of the Bilingual Research Journal. She holds a doctorate from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

laura_carlsonLaura Carlson was promoted to dean of the Graduate School at the University of Notre Dame. She will also serve as vice president and associate provost. She has been serving as associate dean of the Graduate School and is a professor of psychology at the university.

Professor Carlson is a graduate of Dartmouth College. She holds a master’s degree from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.

NancyBuschNancy Busch is the new dean of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries. She has been serving as interim dean since last August. She has been a member of the UNL Libraries staff since 2003.

Dr. Busch holds a master of library science degree from the University of Iowa and a doctorate from the School of Information at the University of Michigan.

Susan-StockerSusan Stocker was named interim dean of the College of Nursing at Kent State University. She has been serving as dean of the Ashtabula campus of Kent State University and will continue in that post while serving as interim dean of the nursing school.

Dr. Stocker also holds the rank of associate professor of nursing at Kent State. She earned a doctorate from the university’s College of Education, Health, and Human Services.

hortonMarsha T. Horton was appointed interim dean of the College of Education, Health, and Public Policy at Delaware State University in Dover. She was an associate professor and dean of the School of Education at Virginia Union University in Richmond. She will take on her new duties on August 19.

Dr. Horton is a magna cum laude graduate of Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She earned a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Illinois.

SosnowskyKristin Sosnowsky was named interim dean of the College of Music and Dramatic Arts at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She is an associate professor of arts administration and chair of the department of theatre at the university.

Professor Sosnowsky has been on the faculty at the university since 2001. She holds a master of fine arts degree from the Yale School of Drama.

Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
