The Henry Ransom Center, a humanities research library at the University of Texas at Austin, has acquired the papers of Barbara Probst Solomon, a journalist, author, and essayist. The collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, and other documents.
Solomon is a native of New York City. After completing high school she moved to Paris and became involved in the Spanish resistance movement. While there she served as a correspondent for American newspapers. She returned to New York and earned a bachelor’s degree at Columbia University and became a notable writer in the city’s literary scene. She wrote two novels and the memoir Arriving Where We Started (Harper & Row, 1972).
Solomon, now 85 years old, continues as a journalist and commentator for online and print publications. She is the publisher and editor of the literary journal The Reading Room.
