Concetta Stewart to Lead Mercy College

concettaThe board of trustees of Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, announced that Concetta M. Stewart will serve as interim president of the college beginning July 1. Mercy College, north of New York City, enrolls about 8,000 undergraduate students and 3,500 graduate students. Women make up two thirds of the undergraduate student body. According to the latest Department of Education data, the college is extremely diverse with Whites, Hispanics, and African Americans each making up close to one third of the student body.

Since 2012, Dr. Stewart has been serving as provost and vice president of academic affairs. Previously, she was dean and professor in the School of Art and Design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Earlier in her career, she was dean of the School of Communication and Theater at Temple University in Philadelphia. She is the co-editor of Teaching and Learning With Technology: Beyond Constructivism (Routledge, 2010).

Dr. Stewart is a graduate of Rutgers University, where she majored in European history. She received a master’s degree at the New School in New York before returning to Rutgers to earn a Ph.D. in communication and information studies.
