Seven Women Named to Faculty Posts

Henderson_FrancesFrances Henderson was awarded tenure at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. She is the first African American woman to be granted tenure at the college in its 194-year history. Dr. Henderson has been teaching political science at the college for the past six years and she is now the only African American on the college’s faculty.

Dr. Henderson is a graduate of Syracuse University and holds a master’s degree from Cornell University and a Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis.

saguisagThis fall Lara Saguisag will begin teaching as an assistant professor of English at the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York system. This spring she is one of the first three graduates of the Ph.D. program in childhood studies at Rutgers University in Camden..

A native of the Philippines, Dr. Saguisag holds master’s degrees from Hollins University and The New School.

santgeethaGeetha Sant was named lecturer at the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. She will also serve as co-director of the law school’s Intellectual Property and Nonprofit Organizations Law Clinic. She has been serving as an adjunct professor in the master’s degree program in nonprofit management at Washington University.

Sant is a 1989 graduate of the Washington University School of Law.

lylesMarjorie Lyles was named Chancellor’s Professor at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis. She is a professor of international strategic management at the Kelley School of Business.

Dr. Lyles is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

lawrenceprofSusan C. Lawrence was appointed associate professor of history at Ohio State University. She has been serving as an associate professor of history at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Dr. Lawrence is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in the history of medicine from the University of Toronto.

Linda-Walters-Linda Walters, professor of biology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, was named director of the Center for Success of Women Faculty at the university. She has been on the faculty at the university for 16 years.

Professor Walters is a graduate of Bates College in Maine. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.

jolles_reneelRenee Jolles was appointed associate professor of violin at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester. She has served on the faculty at The Julliard School, the Mannes School of Music at The New School, and the Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College.

Jolles holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Julliard.
