Six Women Faculty Members Who Are Taking on New Duties

Susanna Rinehart has been named associate dean for academic and faculty affairs in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She has been a faculty member with Virginia Tech since 1999, currently serving as a professor of theatre history, literature, and performance. She has previously held several other positions with the university, including assistant provost of liberal education and director of diversity education.

Rinehart holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in dramatic arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Karen Doherty has been named associate dean for faculty affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University in New York. She first joined the faculty in 1996 and currently serves as a full professor of communications sciences and disorders. She previously spent seven years as chair of her department.

Dr. Doherty holds a bachelor’s degree in communicative disorders from the University of Rhode Island, a master’s degree in audiology from the University of Connecticut, and a Ph.D. in audiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Mira Frick has joined the faculty of the economics department at Princeton University. She most recently taught at Yale University. As a microeconomic theorist, she works on on theoretical models of how individuals acquire and process information and make decisions, in particular in complex environments.

Dr. Frick holds a Ph.D. in business economics from Harvard University.

Bonnie Nicholson has been selected to serve as interim associate dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Southern Mississippi. She has been a faculty member with the university since 2002, currently serving as a professor and associate director of the School of Psychology, as well as head of the Positive Parenting Research Team.

Dr. Nicholson received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in counseling psychology from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Amy D. Linder has earned tenure and been promoted to associate professor in the department of kinesiology and recreational administration at North Carolina Central University. Her research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including physical activity behaviors, coaching, and the intersection of sports and society.

Dr. Linder received a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. She earned a master’s degree in physical education and recreation from North Carolina Central University and a Ph.D. in education from Northcentral University.

Kristy Roschke has been appointed as the inaugural executive director of the McGee Applied Research Center for Narrative Studies at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She will also hold a faculty appointment with the program in communication of science and technology. Prior to her new position, she was director of the News Co/Lab at Arizona State University.

Dr. Roschke is a three-time graduate of Arizona State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations, a master’s degree in mass communication and digital media, and a Ph.D. in journalism and mass communication.
